The Benefits Of Breathwork

Humans take about 22,000 breaths per day. This is a lot of breaths. Every time we breathe in and breathe out, we are sending signals to our brains about the state of the environment around us. Is it safe? Can we relax or do we need to prepare to flee? As much as we live in the modern world, parts of our nervous system are still very primitive. Breathwork can help us walk through life in a mindful state rather than allowing our unpredictable environment to dictate how we feel. It can take us from a place of reacting to life, to a place of living and participating more fully in life.

Breathwork Classes & Workshops

If this post has you interested to learn more about functional breathing and how to incorporate breathwork into your daily life, I have breathwork classes and workshops running at different times during the year. You can also attend 1:1 breathwork sessions with me that can be incorporated into a massage and stretch session if needed.

Breathwork classes what do you teach?

During breathwork classes and workshops you will learn all about functional breathing and how to know if you are preforming the techniques effectively so that you can get the most out of your own personal practice. There is always plenty of time to practice and connect with other likeminded people in a safe, supportive and caring environment.

Breathwork is a powerful tool for supporting optimal health.

If you have any questions please send me a message, I would love to hear about you and how you are incorporating breathwork into your daily life.

In addition to our brain and nervous system, our breathing influences the pH balance of our blood, ensuring that it stays safely in a range of between 7.35 to 7.45. Changes in our breathing impact this delicate balance causing internal stress and dysfunctional breathing patterns. Dysfunctional breathing has been connected to anxiety, panic disorder, lower back pain, and many other health conditions.

In addition to the above, how we breathe during exercise influences our ability to perform and how our core functions. Mouth breathing is commonly seen when individuals are exercising at a higher intensity, but this is not necessarily the most efficient way to breathe when wanting to improve our physical performance.

Human beings are unique because they can consciously make a decision to change their breathing. You may rarely think about how you breathe but you can make a conscious decision to master your breath and as a result, influence how you feel. Next time you are feeling angry or anxious, take note of your breathing. In that moment, make a conscious decision to change your breathing to nose breathing making your breath light, slow, and deep then watch your mood change. This is the power of breathwork and this is only the very tip of the iceberg.
